Happy Halloween! I love this time of the year. I love this day. Last night, I spent the evening at a friend's -- actually, I just got back from there but it's the 31st now. They threw a party for their kids. It was cool. Scary movies. Candy. Halloween is alive and well here in the south. There were tons of churches having alternatives, which is their right to do. But a lot of people take their kids there during the day and then take them trick or treating later. Halloween is fun and not evil. I'm not going to lie. I kind of wish a little part of Halloween was evil, but it's not. It's just fun. So, enjoy today as much as you can.

So Ashlee Simpson didn't sing live on Saturday Night Live? That was the news this morning. It was probably the news yesterday. I just didn't notice.
She came out, and the band started playing. Then everybody heard her vocals for the first song that they had played. She looked confused, danced around a bit with the microphone at her side, and then walked off stage. The band played on, and SNL cut a commercial. Ashlee blames the band, and the record company blames a computer glitch. If she lip-synchs or uses a vocal track to sing to that'll make her vocals stronger, how is it the band's fault that the wrong one was played? Singers should be responsible for their vocals, live or pre-recorded. If I were the band, I wouldn't let her blame the me. That's very disrespectful of the band. Even if she does lip-synch, Ashlee Simpson is still the talented one in the family. Her sister's pop-corn music's popularity is a mystery to me just like how people can think she's hot. She's got goggle eyes that are too far apart, a manly chin, and a horse nose second only to that girl on Sex in the City (who finally got her nose fixed). Life goes on. I'm recovering slowly from sickness. Last night I watched Carnival of Souls, 1962. The dead are spooky in that movie. And there isn't anything wrong with spooky dead... well, unless their band messes up their lip-synching. Sunday, October 24, 2004
Still sick. Oh joy. Last night I heard some of the worst music I've heard in a long time, Superjoint Ritual. I watched a little of their live DVD, and even though it was a little, it was way too much.
Everybody in the band who talked on camera seemed stoned and drunk. Phil Anselmo himself seemed so hazed that he could just lean back and slip from this world. I believe that Superjoint Ritual should be sued by everybody that can sue. I think the former members of Pantera should sue to get Phil Anselmo to change his name. If people find out Phil is in Superjoint Ritual, then it will hurt Pantera's legacy. It is a small but good legacy. They had about three good albums. I believe the guys on Corrosion of Conformity should sue one of the guitar players in Superjoint Ritual, something Bower. I can't remember his first name. He played drums for Corrosion of Conformity and was pretty good. Now he plays guitar in Superjoint Ritual and is awful. Again, I think if people find out that Bower was in Corrosion of Conformity, it'll hurt them. And they're still together. And finally, Hank Williams, III plays bass for Superjoint Ritual. Take a guess. I believe the estate of Hank Williams, Sr should sue, and his family should disown Hank Williams, III. Not only that, but I pray that Hank Williams, Sr rises from the dead to pull all of his grandson's fingers off his hands. Now, if you like Superjoint Ritual, I'm sorry, but there is something medically wrong with you. They're not heavy. They're just fast without any rhythm or groove. The vocals are fast, harsh, and completely unintelligible. Maybe if I could have understood what Phil was saying, I might have been able to tell if he had written some interesting lyrics. Even if he did, they're wasted because nobody can tell what he's saying. I like heavy music. I like fast music. But I just don't like Superjoint Ritual and can't understand why others would. Maybe it's because I'm not a satanic pothead. Maybe that's it. Saturday, October 23, 2004
I hate trying to sleep while sick. I didn't do such a good job of that this morning. I work up about an hour after I went to sleep and felt oddly wide awake. Sleeping then became a game where after a bit, I'd wake up again and take note if I'd had enough sleep to just get up and go about my day.
Last night I saw my first episode of the Discovery Channel show Wing Nuts. The show is about a company trying to survive that make chairs, tables, desks, and so on out of WWII airplanes. First, I couldn't believe I didn't know about the show. Two, I couldn't believe there were people out there who made chairs, tables, and desks that I really loved out of airplanes that I really loved. If I had known there was a desk out there made from a B-25 wing don't you think I would have been praying for one all these years? I went to their website, http://www.motoart.com, and found out that one of the guys on the show, Tim Robbins, died a few days ago. That's real sad. He seemed like a vital part of the company. I am sure he will be missed greatly. Friday, October 22, 2004
The sickness is on me. No, not that sickness. The doctor gave me a shot and that cleared right up. I'm talking about a cold, sore throat, runny nose, ickiness. If I had to describe it in one word, I'd use "muttlecross." That's not a real word, but I stand by my choice.
Last night, after finishing some writings, I went outside just to check out the fog. It was back last night. I watched around the outside light. It was like tiny air bubbles floating up and then back down. Sometimes it'd stand still and sometimes it'd swirl. It oddly reminded me, other than of air bubbles in a water tank, of the way snow moves in a light dusting. That's exactly what people down here want to hear, snow. We haven't seen it in a while. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some, but I know any that we get usually makes life hard here for a few days. It might be worth it to get away from the gloom on gloom of winter especially if the fog is looming. Thursday, October 21, 2004
I woke this morning with a sore throat and runny nose. It is very irritating. I hate things that slow me down. Though my throat has improved as the day has, it is still is bothersome. I am pretending that I do not feel icky.
As for the other weather, last night there was fog like you wouldn't believe. My shadow couldn't reach the ground it was so thick. Of course, I am open to the possibility that there's just something odd about my shadow. But I'd stand outside in front of a light and my shadow would just darken the fog instead of the ground. Dana Reeve, Christopher Reeve's wife, is currently on TV speaking about stem cell research. Stem cell research is extremely important, even personally to me. Over the last year or so, my family has learned that a member has Alzheimer's. I have slowly watched this horrible thing grow. I watched it make somebody forget how to tune a guitar. That's when it kind of hit home for me. This is my genetic background, my history, and the path that my genes are set to take. When the guitar thing happened, it was like looking down the barrel of a gun, a very subversive wake up call. I'm not talking about being selfish, just the natural human reaction to self-preservation. And then I had pity for my family and family member who is suffering, and then for all who suffer from this. I do believe this is one of those things we can fix if we try. Real quick, yes, stem cells come from embryos. Scientists want to use stem cells from embryos that are going to be thrown out. They do not want to use stem cells from abortions. Again, they do not want to use stem cells from abortions. Fertility clinics create embryos for women all the time. The women use the embryos and sometimes have children. The embryos they didn't use are kept frozen until they are destroyed. Scientists want to use these stem cells for their research. Well, I've written enough for now. Tuesday, October 19, 2004

Hopeful Sinner - A Charlie Terrell Site
http://www.hopefulsinner.com It has been a long few weeks. So do me a favor and check out the newly redesigned Hopeful Sinner site. My friend Jon and I did this. We still don't have a name for our web design company. We really haven't had time to figure one out, but it'll come. But I'd rather have some sites designed and up then just having a name. That's like having a band without a song. The HS site contains some complex stuff. It seems the more complex something is, the simpler it looks to the user. Maybe that's the nature of innovation. The week has been long. And last night, it finally started to rain, a mist at first. My friend Jon and I have been working on various projects that take a lot of time. I can't wait to share more details, but those are the rules. I don't show unfinished stories anymore until they are finished. That's a good rule that can be applied to so many things. It really does help keep the creative fire going.
Last night while working, I had comedy central on. There was some show whose name I can't remember. But the guy had to go from city to city doing these odd challenges. I know it's an old show because I remember seeing a different episode before. In the episode I saw last night, the guy was in Romania and doing Dracula related stuff. One challenge involved taking his own blood and mixing it with hot sauce and vodka -- can you see where this is going? -- and drinking it. Now, that is a drink. Wednesday, October 06, 2004
Criminal Intent
http://www.criminalintentband.com This is my friend Nick's band. If you're local, you need to see them live. Also, my friend Jon and I did the website. The site is just temporary while we work on a more... complex website. We had to quickly put up a temporary site for the band. I believe we did a nice job. Why would my opinion by bias? The Mountain Meadows massacre of over 120 men, women and children - The Crime library
http://www.crimelibrary.com "Directed by the church's leaders," Mormon murderers "cut down the backsliders," leaving the bones of over 120 men, women, and children to rest in the Mountain Meadows. Joseph Smith and Brigham Young "had instilled a culture of vengeance, fear and anger in their people." Click above and read about the masssacre. Sunday, October 03, 2004
It amazes me that how all the good things, vibes and notions, that you have had going for you for the past few weeks can quickly breakdown, on almost a molecular level, as you are sitting in your car trying to get it to start and stay running.
I just came home from a friend's place. My car once again acted up. I pressed on the gas and little to nothing happened. And when I tried to turn down a road, it died, and I couldn't get it to start and stay running. For months, I've had problems. First, I paid to have the fuel filter replaced by a mechanic. Then the car acted up again a month later. I learned to replace my own fuel filter. Yeah, I know now it's not that big of a deal. Then a week later it started acting up again. Then I took it back to the mechanic who said this and that and replaced some sensor and some coil and charged a lot of money. It hasn't been two weeks, and the car has decided to remind me just how fucked things are. If something is broke then it is broke. I can deal with that. But having to get my hopes up time and time again that the broke thing is fixed only to find out its not in the middle of the street with traffic is not a good thing. And I don't think I'd wish it on anybody. I'm going to go sleep now. Friday, October 01, 2004
George W. Bush is a really bad actor. Yeah, I watched the debate Thursday night. W. is a really bad actor, and I didn't like the way he managed to work in a story about meeting a woman who had lost her son in Iraq. He just seemed like he was waiting to slip it in.
Elsewhere... I'm trying out a live Linux disc called XFLD which is based on Knoppix which is based on Debian. XFLD is supposed to show off XFCE, a windows manager for Linux. I kind of like it, XFCE. I'm going to tinker with it for a bit, maybe even install it on my Mandrake system. The reason for the interest in XFCE comes from that FreeBSD live disc I posted about a few days ago. The windows manager for that one was XFCE. |
