You know what grinds my gears? The fact that you can't get a review of any kind of electronic item anymore. TV, Computer, Monitor, MP3 Player, Camera, freaking Head Phones, etc. You do a search for any product on Google, and what do you get? A site listing prices. Oh, sure, you can find the word "review" on the page. It's a section for "users" to add their own review.

I was trying to find a review of a new camcorder, Samsung SC-D382. I googled "Samsung SC-D382 review" and got mostly "read reviews and compare prices" sites. Google should de-list these sites now. They do not provide reviews and are only click-through ads to buy products. I'm talking about you bizrate and your many clones. You've even got CNET and ZDNET playing your game now.

The best way I've found to actually find reviews these days is to click Video on google and search. Believe it or not, there's some good home-grown reviews out there. Though, for the Samsung SC-D382, all I was able to find was a video on YouTube of a guy opening the box for the camera. I guess that's a start. I may email him later and see if he likes the camera.

Have I mentioned how much I hate IE?

From the start, I knew that I would eventually have to come up with a new menu system for our guild site. The New Dawn. I put it off and let the guild site grow. Now we had no choice. WoWRoster 2.0 was released, and we needed the room a side menu was taking up. We'd needed that room for the forum for a while; I just didn't want to admit to that.

Oh, what to do with space? Menus get in the way. I am a fan of expanding websites. But for our guild site, I had to use Joomla and a fixed width template. That has played havoc with much of what I wanted to add to the site. To say it has been a learning experience is to leave out the curse words. Joomla, while probably the best solution to an interactive website with articles/sections, just doesn't feel ready for prime time. Never the less, I'd still use it for a client. There is a big difference between client and me. I am always pushing it.

Oh well. I think I finally got our guild site's new menu to work the same-ish in Firefox and IE. To be honest, when I first implemented the new menu, I didn't do that much IE testing. The test html page seemed to work fine in IE. It wasn't until a day later after uploading it that I discovered that the IE menu was a few pixels off which made it hard to select links. Isn't that just great? IE is such a crappy browser. Why can't it use it the same specs as all the other browsers? Why does it need special code just for it? You spend all this time coming up with something cool, and then you have to backtrack and make it work with IE because IE is dumb and stupid and ignorant. Jez, I hope the same folks make an Operating System...

From a Hole in the Sky

13 Stories of Horror, Madness, and Religion make up this dark-kudzu collection. A city run by angels with demanding burial rites. A white van jostling with clowns and warnings about sleep. A weeping pastor with a dead man in a boat. Homicide, Suicide, Jesus, and The Devil. To join a family, you're going to need some stitches. Kids today on their way to cut grass and play cowboys and injuns'. A hole in the ground where poor John Henry met a foul ending. And unholy birthing machines with a chosen one. All this and more. Where do bad things come from? They come FROM A HOLE IN THE SKY.
