Jump Edit Test. In Adobe Premiere, you can edit the speed (duration) of a clip. So, I took a sequence (me picking up a flashlight) and at certain points, cut it into segments, and then increased the speed from 100% to 800% for certain segments. I had hopes of producing a jump edit. Jump edit is my term. I think it's an easy edit trick. Though, notice how the background seems to move upward during the jump. I did not move the video up. So, I imagine it's just a side effect of cutting and increasing the speed of a section of video in Adobe Premiere. I can't help but to wonder what it would be like in Final Cut Pro. Would the video move upwards? Saturday, August 23, 2008

Now that I know how to embed higher quality YouTube videos, I'll be redoing the videos on the Media page. Not all can be updated to a higher quality version. It depends on what I uploaded it as.

More YouTube encoding experiments. This time it's of some bad weather we had here on the 2nd, briefly shot during and after the storm. The forecast didn't say anything about any rain. By days end, we had flash floods, straight line winds, power outages, hail, and a few tornadoes. Typical Alabama weather. YouTube Link. Saturday, August 02, 2008
I failed to point out two things in my previous post. First, I'm shooting at 16 by 9. Second, that I had to add &ap=%2526fmt%3D18 to the end of the embed link so that it'll show High Quality instead of Standard.
I shot some test video with my Canon ZR850. This was weeks ago. Since then, I've been trying to figure out how to export a DV video in a format that looks good on YouTube. And I've been trying to do it on a PC. Video editing on a PC is probably the definition of insane. I know that now.
I may have finally figured out a file format that works, at least, with the high quality video that YouTube can do. It's MOV format, h.264, fps 29.7, and 640 by 480. I exported a video with those settings using Adobe Premiere. The standard quality looks like crap, but the high quality version doesn't look all that bad. It does show the limitations of flash video. And it didn't help things that I shot green bushes on a windy day. Never the less, this is test video, and I was able to learn from it. The source video was shot on an overcast day with windy conditions. This is the High Quality version on YouTube: I suggest everybody create an account on YouTube and select High Quality video by default. Friday, August 01, 2008
To watch video on YouTube in high quality, add &fmt=18 to the end of the link. Not all videos are offered in high quality because they have to be uploaded at least 640 by 480 and 24 fps. And sometimes, even if they are uploaded at that, they still don't have a link for a higher quality version.

Buy my book.
From a Hole in the Sky 13 Stories of Horror, Madness, and Religion make up this dark-kudzu collection. A city run by angels with demanding burial rites. A white van jostling with clowns and warnings about sleep. A weeping pastor with a dead man in a boat. Homicide, Suicide, Jesus, and The Devil. To join a family, you're going to need some stitches. Kids today on their way to cut grass and play cowboys and injuns'. A hole in the ground where poor John Henry met a foul ending. And unholy birthing machines with a chosen one. All this and more. Where do bad things come from? They come FROM A HOLE IN THE SKY. The Alabama Weather Blog A blog of the current forecasts, watches, and warnings for the state of Alabama. The posts are automatically generated from E-forecast and E-warn e-mails from my local ABC Network Affiliate, ABC 33/40. The images are from the National Weather Service. The site will refresh itself every ten minutes. |
